Summary:

Working collaboratively with the Quality Director, the Manager is responsible for the day-to-day oversight and coordination of the Quality & Performance Improvement Specialists and the improvement initiatives required to achieve the quality, safety, and regulatory goals of the organization. Leads the work necessary to ensure that the organization is in a state of continuous readiness for surveys from agencies including The Joint Commission and CMS/NY State Dept of Health.

Responsibilities:

  1. Quality & Performance Improvement : Provides guidance, coordination, and coaching to quality staff and others on the selection and use of effective performance improvement tools & methods needed to improve clinical outcomes, patient safety, and regulatory standards.

2.Collaborates with staff, medical staff, and hospital leaders to ensure meaningful and actionable quality data, reports, and dashboards are in place and being used on a consistent basis to allow the organization to understand its current state of quality performance and where focused improvement efforts may be needed.

3.Uses the data-driven approach described above, identifies high priority improvement opportunities, helps develop workplans and engage teams necessary to improve processes, and provide follow-up & monitoring to evaluate progress and ensure process changes are hardwired.

4.Manages and organizes the work of the Quality & Performance Improvement Specialists, setting priorities and allocating resources needed for goal achievement and high levels of customer/employee satisfaction.

5.Manages the quality department’s work to facilitate medical staff peer reviews, professional practice evaluations (OPPE, FPPE), and performance improvement activities, working closely with medical staff leaders and hospital teams.

  1. Participates in a variety of internal Nuvance Health system wide quality improvement initiatives as well as external programs such as the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services Value Based Purchasing and Star Ratings programs, Leapfrog Patient Safety program, commercial pay for performance programs, and others to identify and implement performance improvement initiatives needed to improve the organization’s results and ratings.

  2. Provide coaching, training, and development of the Quality & Performance Improvement Specialists to improve teamwork and effectiveness.

  3. Regulatory Readiness : Identify & implement actions, monitoring, and lead teams needed to achieve and sustain continual regulatory compliance and survey readiness for external agencies such as The Joint Commission, the NY State Department of Health, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, among others.

  4. Chair the organization’s Regulatory Readiness committee, establishing agendas, membership and processes needed to be survey-ready.

  5. Serves as point person for all communication, management of on-site surveys, and post-survey follow up work with the regulatory bodies as described above in #8.

11.Work closely with Nursing, Risk Management, Patient Experience, Infection Prevention, Patient Safety, and other departments to establish positive working relationships and processes needed for becoming a highly reliable organization with a Just Culture.

12.Participate in other leadership duties and responsibilities working collaboratively with the Quality Director.

13.Maintain and Model Nuvance Health Values.

Other information:

Education and Experience Requirements:

·Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or a related clinical field required (or equivalent experience); Master’s Degree preferred.

·Three (3)+ years of leadership experience in an acute care setting required.

·Minimum of one (1)+ year full time experience in acute care quality required.

License, Registration, or Certification Requirements:

·Current NYS license as a Registered Nurse or other clinical professional.

·Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) preferred.

·Certified in Lean, Lean Six-Sigma, or comparable methodology preferred.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Requirements:

·Experienced in the IHI Model for Improvement, Lean-Six Sigma, or other formal process improvement methods. Able to coach and develop others with same.

·Strong organization, problem solving and time management skills.

·Contemporary knowledge of quality processes, performance improvement, and patient safety in healthcare.

·Understands the relationship between reimbursement and performance, and the public reporting of clinical performance data.

·Exceptional level of professionalism, discretion, and the ability to work on highly sensitive and confidential projects.

·Outstanding negotiation, written and verbal communication skills

·Outstanding listening, interpersonal relationship-building, and problem-solving skills

·Able to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously with demonstrated ability to complete projects successfully on time and within budget.

·Excellent leadership attributes including positive, can-do attitude and the ability to lead, coach, mentor, and create a high-performing Quality team.
