About the opportunity

Owing to a significant increase in our secured works throughout 202 and beyond we are looking to enhance our national overhead line design function. Reporting to the OLE Operational Lead you will produce, check and validate OLE designs for Jacobs and other clients.

You will also provide technical consultancy services for clients and provide close support to the other engineering leads and disciplines.

The office location for this role may be either York, Manchester or Birmingham. However, the intention is for time to be split between office and home working and as such applications from candidates based in other locations are welcome.

The aspiration is for this role to have line management of 1 or 2 design engineers, with further direct reports added in the near future as the team grows. The role will require leadership and guidance of other junior members of the Jacobs OLE team both in the UK and Globally.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out the duties of OLE Contractors Responsible Engineer (CRE) or Project Engineer (PE) as required.

  • Ensure internal and contractor’s design/construction/specialists’ personnel have the correct competencies.

  • Manage all OLE engineering activities on allocated projects so that they result in schemes that are affordable and meet programme requirements in a safe and environmentally responsible manner for time, cost and quality.

  • Manage the design and/or construction elements of allocated projects ensuring they meet the requirements of current legislation, including construction design management (CDM) and CSM-RA regulations.

  • Provide advice in respect of all construction activities, including testing and commissioning and site supervision.

  • Assist the Head of Discipline (HoD) in developing a culture of technical excellence by driving a right first-time approach.

  • Monitor design and specialist consultants and contractors.

  • Assist the HoD in the development & innovative solutions.

  • Identify and help to share best practice across all project teams.

Here’s what you’ll need :

  • Degree/HNC or relevant experience

  • Approved as a Network Rail Contractors Responsible Engineers (CRE) or previously worked as a Network Rail Project Engineer

  • An understanding of the arrangements required for the independent assessment of work

  • CDM, CSM-RA, risk assessment, engineering management competency

  • A working knowledge of Network Rail and other client Standards

  • Specific experience of project development for rail OLE schemes, NR approval processes and deliverables criteria for OLE schemes.

  • Knowledge of MkI, MkIIIA,B,C&D UK1, GEFF, Series 1 and 2 OLE systems

  • Knowledge of RSC Design
