Chief Operating Officer - Jersey City Medical Center

Job Overview:

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) is a key leadership position within Jersey City Medical Center. The COO has responsibility for leading, developing and executing key business strategies and for directing and administering the day-to-day operations of the facility in alignment with the goals and objectives of the organization. Primary focus is on delivering an exceptional patient-centered care experience and safe, efficient, high quality outcomes through a highly engaged team. This executive will work collaboratively with the Chief Executive Officer in gaining market share for the hospital, organizing and growing service lines and influencing others through participation in physician and community involvement and advisory groups.

Reports to:

  • The Chief Operating Officer at Jersey City Medical Center (JCMC) reports directly to the President and CEO of JCMC

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university in healthcare administration, business administration or other discipline related to the duties of the position

  • Minimum of ten years of healthcare experience that would demonstrate attainment of the requisite job knowledge/abilities, including five years of executive leadership within a teaching hospital that is a member organization of a larger, multi-hospital system

  • Proven leadership within a matrixed organizational structure where influence, not direct control, has been the key to success

  • Prior engagement in service line operations

  • Proven experience in physician relations

  • Prior successful experience partnering with unions is strongly preferred

Essential Functions:

The COO will work closely with others to ensure that the strategic objectives of Jersey City Medical Center are achieved. Through leadership capabilities and the articulated health system and medical center goals and objectives, this leader is expected to strengthen the operations of Jersey City Medical Center. The COO must confer with the CEO of Jersey City Medical Center to keep him informed of the status of major initiatives for which he/she is accountable, significant matters having health system and/or community impact, complex and sensitive operational issues, and matters effecting institutional policies and direction. This individual will manage a large proportion of the Hospital s multi-million dollar budget and oversee a significant number of FTE s.

The COO will also work with the CEO and Senior Management team on operational and strategic planning, developing goals and objectives, and priority setting. The COO must also ensure his/her departments are effectively partnering with all clinical areas (including but not limited to physicians and nurses) throughout the RWJBarnabas Health system with an overall goal of improved patient satisfaction, high-quality patient care, and operational efficiency. The COO will also cultivate and sustain a culture that embraces engagement, teamwork, and accountability while exemplifying his/her areas of responsibility and leadership excellence.

The ideal candidate is a seasoned operations leader who models collaborative, multidisciplinary leadership, motivates and empowers staff, and inspires innovation and creativity. He/she is knowledgeable of and highly experienced in population health management, financial management, hospital operations, ambulatory care, and quality improvement methods.

Pay Range:$350,000 - $485,000
